I Spent $500.00 On The Kroma Wellness Reset And This Happened...
Happy new year, everyone! We survived and made it to 2023!
I don’t know about you, but I am thrilled that the holidays are behind us.
Before you start making a face, hear me out. I love spending time with friends and family and celebrating all the things, but the last few months have been absolutely grueling. Who knew that brunches, happy hours, dinner parties, and nights out on the town could be so exhausting? Hell, my credit card statement reads as if it was a food diary. In fact, the real heroes of the holidays were the button and zipper on my jeans. They were holding on for dear life, but I am grateful they didn’t burst open at the most inopportune time.
Anytime I feel like this, I know my system needs a little rest and reboot. Although I am not one for new year’s resolutions, there was no better time to dive head-first into my Kroma Wellness Reset.
Unfamiliar with Kroma?
Kroma believes in the power of food as medicine. Focusing on SuperFoods and Adaptogens, Kroma has proven that nutrient-rich foods and super herbs are the most powerful preventative ‘medicine’ known to improve overall health and well-being. If I learned anything on this journey, it’s that eating healthy can be enjoyable and delicious. Clients who commit to the Kroma reset will experience the following: overall slimming and debloating, better sleep and clearer mind, weight loss, more energy, balanced adrenals, increased metabolic function, and improved digestion (to name a few). Kroma has five core values, and one, in particular, spoke to me: Live Super-Empowered. Kroma believes that your body is sacred, and anything that you put in your body should be working for, not against you. I could go on sharing the company philosophy, but if you are interested in learning more about Kroma, click HERE.
Let’s get into it, shall we? Below you will find my daily thoughts and musings while I was on the Kroma Wellness reset.
Day 1: Hello, Old Friend!
I did two Kroma Wellness Resets in 2022, so this wasn’t completely unchartered territory for me. In fact, I had even adopted some of their essentials into my daily routine ( Beauty Matcha and OMG Cookie Butter). But I fell off the wagon for the last three or four months. Without hesitation, I traded my morning matcha for a quad-shot latte. My lunchtime workouts suddenly disappeared and were replaced by luncheons with friends or running errands for the holidays. It was easier to Doordash than it was to cook and the Jeni’s Ice Cream that I received as an early Christmas gift was way more enjoyable than getting on my Peloton. I knew today was going to be a bitch. I’d basically be weening myself off a lifestyle filled with wine, cheese, steak, tacos, and ice cream and trading it in for nutrient-rich foods that my body so desperately needed.
Today was an ideal time to start this reset as I stayed so busy taking down holiday decor and doing a deep clean of my house that I almost didn’t finish my packets. I skipped the pre-lunch smoothie and didn’t really miss it. Take it from someone who has done this time or two, make sure you purchase some items to supplement your broth. Obviously, this will vary from person to person, but I find it helpful to have kale, spinach, zucchini, and chicken to add to my broth packets. Think of it as a very nutritious chicken soup. At the end of day one, I felt incredibly tired- like I could crawl into bed at 7:00 pm and go to sleep. And I also noticed a tinge of a headache. These seem to be natural detox symptoms, so I’ll be curious to see what it’s like at the end of Day 2.
Day 2: Is She Going To Make It?
Like many, today was my first official day back in the office for 2023. I don’t know if it was the anxiety of returning to work or my hunger that kept me awake last night. I swear I woke up to a gremlin in my stomach making noise around 11:30 p.m. It happens, right? When your daily caloric consumption plummets from 4,000 + calories a day to a little over 1,000, your body will have a response, and mine decided to revolt.
I pulled my somewhat sleep-deprived self out of bed and started my morning sifting through two weeks’ worth of emails while sipping on my ginger tea. ( Pro-Tip: If you want to save a few dollars, you can always get the Yogi Ginger tea. It works just as well). Before I knew it, it was almost 9:00 am, and I had yet to crack open a single packet. I thought to myself, I’ve got this… and I did until I didn’t.
Blame the targeting advertising or the social media algorithm, but everything that I encountered this afternoon was either focused on these incredible, massive deli sandwiches (Fatbelly Deli, I blame you!), some dreamy, crunchy ASMR videos with grilled cheese and toast, or all the pastry options in London. Downright mean, I tell you! I started shaking my phone in hopes that Instagram and/or Tiktok would allow me to hide such mouthwatering content until Saturday! After all, this is borderline harassment to someone who hasn’t used a fork in two days.
It sent your girl into a downward spiral. How in the hell was I going to make it THREE MORE DAYS? I wanted something- anything that wasn’t in my reset box.
Before I went completely off the rails, I texted my friend who embarked on this cleansing journey with me. Texts and memes flew, but she got me through my rough patch. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for sleep and strength to get through tomorrow.
Day 3: She Can Do Hard Things! <Even if she is hungry>
This girl woke up refreshed and ready to slay the day. Not only am I kicking off 2023 with a cleanse, but I’ve made a vow to myself to move more during the day. I started my morning with a little walk and dove head first into meetings and emails. All those “let’s circle back in the new year” items are hitting this week…hard. I hopped on the Peloton for a quick ride during lunch and was shocked. In the two years of owning this bike, I’ve never sweat that much during a ride. Maybe it was my body’s way of expelling the toxins for the last four months or a new form of revolt, but DAMN. What can I say? That smoothie was much needed after that ride. This week, my fondness for the Supergreens Elixer Mix has been rekindled. I forgot how much I enjoy that boost of energy in the afternoon, and for someone who doesn’t always do the best job getting the proper amount of vegetables in her daily diet, it’s the best!
The true hero of day three was the OMG Cookie Butter. It’s one of my tried and true favorites. In fact, I keep a few jars around the house when those emergency sugar cravings hit.
Confession: I started thinking about my first meal after completing the cleanse. What would it be? Take my advice, DON’T DO IT. Immediately went into a downward spiral.
Day 4: She’s happy. She’s Healthy, and She’s no longer bloated!
Y’all, I am happy to report that I had an incredible night’s sleep and woke up rested and ready to take on the day. We all have that pair of jeans that are our go-to pair. Dress them up, dress them down; they make you feel like your best self. I am happy to report that I put on those jeans that were just a little too snug in December, and they now fit perfectly. HOORAY!
Even though a girl can wish for a miracle, I can’t expect a wellness reset to undo the last four months of consuming copious amounts of delicious food, but it definitely has helped! I found myself having more energy and being more present throughout the day. I’m ready to see what day five holds!
Day 5: FINAL COUNTDOwn!
Even though I joked with my friends about how excited I was to use a knife and fork once I my reset was finished, I was excited to see what the last day had in store. I woke up feeling refreshed and ready to go. Pre-Kroma Courtney would inevitably hit snooze at least once, stumble out of bed, throw on appropriate work-from-home attire, and start her day. Today, I almost didn’t recognize myself. I saw a noticeable difference in my energy levels, so much so that I worked out before I started my day, which is unheard of. That brain fog that so many of us encounter was totally gone. I found myself being more present in conversations, both work and personal. I’m not going to lie; it was a glorious thing.
Was it possible that I reversed some of the self-inflicted damage over the last four months?
As I enjoyed my final broth packet, I thought to myself, “I made it,” I won’t lie. There were times over the last few days when I thought that I couldn’t do it any longer. Not only am I proud that I finished the five days, but my body is incredibly thankful. And I didn’t even finish the entire jar of OMG Cookie Butter, so I will call that a win!
Lessons Learned:
“ If you don’t make time for your wellness, you will be forced to make time for your illness. Read that again.”
One evening while mindlessly scrolling through Instagram, torturing myself with all the food porn, I came across the above quote. I thought to myself, “ if this isn’t timely.” As I said before, I don’t expect a five-day wellness reset to undo the last four months I’ve spent clogging up my body, but it was an excellent start. After five days, my stomach is flatter ( bye-bye bloat), and I have increased energy, not to mention improved mental clarity. And… the fact that I lost 6.7 pounds isn’t that bad, either.
Kroma has demonstrated that food has a tremendous power to heal and change us mentally and physically. Over the last few months, I’ve developed some stomach issues. Perhaps it’s my age or the fact that I’ve treated my body like a frat house over the last few months. Regardless, I didn’t experience one bit of pain throughout my reset. I know, you may be thinking- wait until you are finished with the broth, and I have. I am happy to report no stomach pain since I’ve completed the reset. That in and of itself is a win.
Don’t get me wrong. $500.00 is a hell of a lot of money, and five days without a fork can be challenging for some, but at the end of the day, you are worth it.
Several of you reached out to me while I was in the midst of the reset, but please feel free to reach out with any questions or comments you may have!
Happy Resetting!
Until Next Time!
