TASTING NOTES:

It’s hard to believe that I’ve been sharing my TJ Tuesday finds for over a year. As much as I love exploring wine, it puts a smile on my face when I get a message from one of you all who have tried the wine and enjoys it as much as I do.

As I’ve chosen my wine for TJ Tuesday, I’ve noticed that Trader Joe’s seems to do exceptionally well with Italian wine. Blame it on my love for all things Italian, but I’ve had very few bottles that I’ve said “PASS.” This week is no different. There was a new Italian bottle that caught my eye, Casone, and given that it was from one of my favorite regions, Tuscany, I knew it was coming home with me.

If I am being completely honest, I rarely decant my TJ Tuesday purchases. Usually, I am in dire need of a glass of wine and I kind be somewhat impatient waiting for them to open up. However, Casone was the exception to the rule. After taking my first sip, I immediately knew that this glass needed to open up to its full potential before I started drinking it. Most “Super Tuscan” wines have to be decanted and of course, this one was no different.

After impatiently waiting, I swirled the beautiful ruby-garnet wine around my glass and couldn’t wait to take a sip. Y’all, this was a stunner. Even though I was only a few sips in, I knew that I had made a solid choice. Almost through my first glass, here were my initial observations:

  • Notes of Black Cherry and Strawberry and even a little Black Plum

  • Spiciness in the back of the mouth

  • Medium Body with mild complexity, although this pretty intense at first sip

Verdict:

Trader Joe’s does it again. This Super Tuscan is one that you will want to add to your shopping list. Whether you looking for an interesting and complex red wine to pair with a meal or perhaps you’re looking for something to sip on while you catch up on your DVR, Casone is the bottle for you and well worth the 10.99 price point. This bottle is perfect for those first few days of fall and will keep you warm through the winter. Grab a bottle or case if you can.

UNTIL NEXT TIME!

Welcome to Blonde Voyage Nashville!

I am so excited to finally see this dream become a reality.  Between the destination restaurants, the copious amount of food photos and insanely crazy travel stories, I have decided to share my journey.

My name is Catherine Courtney and I am a Nashville native with a penchant for culinary creativity and epic travel adventures. I'll admit... I also have a slight obsession with handbags.

Two years ago, my life changed completely.  Everything that I knew to be was completely turned upside down.  I quickly realized that time is our greatest commodity and it's not to be taken for granted. I couldn't wait for the perfect time, who knew when that would be.  I needed to take the leap and explore the world on my own.  There were so many places I wanted to go, but where would I start.

France was always one of those places that I had romanticized.  Wandering the streets of Paris and seeing the Eiffel tower were at the top of my list. Without hesitation, I booked a two week trip to the French Rivera and Paris.  It was a journey of a lifetime.  Not only were amazing friendships cultivated, but it was on that trip that i discovered that food and travel are the embers that that keep my soul on fire.

It wasn't until I arrived back in Nashville with my passport that I realized I had been bit. Wanderlust had completely taken over.  I already started thinking about where I wanted to go next.  It was then that I decided that it was more important to have camera full of photos and a tattered journal full of stories than anything else. My heart was overflowing.

One of my favorite quotes that resonates is from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland:

"Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures...."

Join me as I explore near and far away places, filling my passport full of stamps and satiating my appetite with some of the most amazing cuisine the world has to offer.

Thanks for reading!
