This week as we continue to “Drink the Rainbow” during our TJ Tuesday segment, I wanted to move down the boldness spectrum to one of my tried and true favorite wines, Cabernet Sauvignon. Undoubtedly this is one of my favorite reds and I have so many bottles in my house that it’s hard to keep up. However, during my last visit to Trader Joe’s, I noticed Paso Dragon on the end cap of an aisle and I had to try out the new new!
If you are familiar with California, you know that Paso Robles is one of the premier wine appellations producing some amazing Cabernet Sauvignon. Northwest of town is Lake Nacimiento, which is a favorite among locals. It’s said that when this lake is viewed from above it appears to be shaped like a dragon.
Giddy with excitement, I opened the bottle and poured a glass. Below are some of my tasting observations.
TASTING NOTES:
Classic Cork
Deep ruby color
Notes of black fruit with hints of oak, vanilla, and black licorice
Falls towards the tannic end of the spectrum
Bold/full-bodied wine; Would recommend allowing time for it to open
Trader Joe’s recommends serving this with BBQ or beer short ribs
Verdict: Without a doubt, the Paso Dragon is on fire! I really enjoyed this wine. I paired it with steak and it complimented it perfectly. Since this is the first time I’ve spotted this at Trader Joe’s, I’m not sure how long it will stick around, but if you're curious about Paso Dragon, pick up a bottle and let me know what you think!
Until Next Time!
