As we continue our Drink the Rainbow series, I wanted to sample a couple of white blends before we move on to Rosé. After pouring through my TJ Tuesday selections, it’s abundantly clear that I favor red wines. Drink the Rainbow has encouraged me to try some different wines that I may not normally gravitate toward in hopes of finding a new favorite.

During my last visit to Trader Joe’s, I picked up a bottle of Pontificis, a delicate white wine blend from Languedoc-Roussillon, France. For those of you who are geography nerds, Languedoc-Roussillon is located on the coastal region of southern France and extends from Provence to the Pyrenees Mountains.

One thing I enjoy most about TJ Tuesday is learning more about the different regions of wine production. Being the true wine geek that I am, I pulled out my World Atlas of Wine, which I’ve linked here, and read about the region, the geography, climate, and much more.

Before I bore you too much, let’s jump into the tasting details, shall we?

TASTING NOTES:

  • Synthetic wine cork

  • Falls between a lemon and pale gold hue

  • Delicate wine; very easy to drink

  • Peach notes on the nose

  • Stone fruit flavors throughout; almost tropical

  • Smooth mouthfeel

  • Very mild; definitely on the dry side

Verdict:  I don’t often drink white wine as chronicled by my TJ Tuesday tastings. I’m not sure why I had preconceived notions about this wine but I was expecting this blend to be a little bolder than it was. I enjoyed the stone fruit notes and think that it would be a lovely patio or porch wine, but it wasn’t for me. If you purchase a bottle and find an amazing food pairing for it, please send it my way. I’d certainly be willing to give it another try!

Until Next Time!
