Last week, we were exploring Mendoza, Argentina, and this week we are bringing it a little closer to home with a Pinot Noir from Oregon. I’ve always got my eye out for new bottles at Trader Joe’s and Rascal Pinor Noir was one that grabbed my attention last week. For those of you who don’t know me, I am a total animal lover. Cats, dogs, elephants, giraffes, you name it. If I’m being completely honest, I’d be in a LOT of trouble if I had a farm in Nashville!
Aside from the charming label, Rascal Wine has such a lovely story, one that captivated my heart. Rascal Wine is produced by the Great Oregon Wine Company. These wines are a tribute to their beloved Golden Retriever, Rascal, who welcomed guests and made them feel right at home. The Great Oregon Wine Company believes in celebrating the “Rascals” of the world and donates a portion of the proceeds to various animal welfare organizations across the country. As if this doesn’t give you another reason to drink some wine! If you would like to learn more about The Great Oregon Wine Company or Rascal Wines, I’ve shared the links above.
Let’s jump into the tasting details, shall we?
TASTING NOTES:
Twist top
Light garnet hue
Falls towards the drier end of the spectrum; a touch of acidity towards the back o the mouth
Fruit forward, specifically notes of dark cherry
Light, smooth wine
Slight spiciness towards the back of the mouth hints of pepper if you will
Verdict:
I can’t tell you how much I adore big red wines and by now you can tell that through my TJ Tuesday favorites. However, I found it refreshing to enjoy something a bit lighter than usual. I enjoyed the flavor profile of this wine and it could easily pass for a $20.00 bottle. And let’s face it, every bottle your sip supports a little “Rascal” somewhere in the country. Give this one a try and let me know what you think!
Until Next Time!
