When I first started drinking wine, which feels like decades ago, I drank a LOT of Chardonnay. Chardonnay was like my first bike with training wheels, it was safe, allowed me to explore food and wine pairings, and easy to drink. For the most part, I knew what I was getting and disappointment was minimal.

As my appreciation for food and wine grew, my palate expanded and I began to try other wines. I fell in love with Chenin Blancs and my heart was stolen by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The training wheels came off the bike and I began to explore different regions and varietals.

It’s not often that I buy a bottle of Chardonnay unless the label catches my eye or it ends up in a wine club shipment, but when I saw Revelation at Trader Joe’s the label caught my eye and I knew I needed to give it a try.

What better time to pop this bottle open than National Chardonnay Day! I know, insert eye roll here. Most people find these “national food holidays” to be ridiculous, but any day that celebrates drinking wine is one that I will support!

As I poured myself a glass, I started thinking about some of the first wines that I drank. Most Chardonnays were from California and were either super buttery or oaky. I don’t think there was an in-between. But as I swirled my glass, I was pleasantly surprised by my findings.

TASTING NOTES:

  • Golden straw color

  • Fresh fruit notes on the nose; notes of banana, green apples

  • Crisp and flavorful

  • Creamy mouthfeel

  • Slight hints of oak and vanilla at the finish

Verdict:  For a girl who’s not a huge fan of Chardonnay, I was pleasantly surprised by this bottle. It wasn’t oaky or buttery like most California Chardonnays but much more balanced, crisp and flavorful. If you are a white wine enthusiast or perhaps in search of a different flavor profile, pick up a bottle of Revelation at Trader Joe’s. I feel certain that you won’t be disappointed.

Until Next Time!

Welcome to Blonde Voyage Nashville!

I am so excited to finally see this dream become a reality.  Between the destination restaurants, the copious amount of food photos and insanely crazy travel stories, I have decided to share my journey.

My name is Catherine Courtney and I am a Nashville native with a penchant for culinary creativity and epic travel adventures. I'll admit... I also have a slight obsession with handbags.

Two years ago, my life changed completely.  Everything that I knew to be was completely turned upside down.  I quickly realized that time is our greatest commodity and it's not to be taken for granted. I couldn't wait for the perfect time, who knew when that would be.  I needed to take the leap and explore the world on my own.  There were so many places I wanted to go, but where would I start.

France was always one of those places that I had romanticized.  Wandering the streets of Paris and seeing the Eiffel tower were at the top of my list. Without hesitation, I booked a two week trip to the French Rivera and Paris.  It was a journey of a lifetime.  Not only were amazing friendships cultivated, but it was on that trip that i discovered that food and travel are the embers that that keep my soul on fire.

It wasn't until I arrived back in Nashville with my passport that I realized I had been bit. Wanderlust had completely taken over.  I already started thinking about where I wanted to go next.  It was then that I decided that it was more important to have camera full of photos and a tattered journal full of stories than anything else. My heart was overflowing.

One of my favorite quotes that resonates is from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland:

"Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures...."

Join me as I explore near and far away places, filling my passport full of stamps and satiating my appetite with some of the most amazing cuisine the world has to offer.

Thanks for reading!
