I enjoy nothing more than spotting a new wine at Trader Joe’s. Not only do I scour the new arrivals shelves and neighboring areas, but I also often comb the wine aisle from top to bottom to see what I’ve missed since my last visit. I’ve had a few bottles I’ve meant to sample, but life continues to get in the way. Today, we will open Super Happy, a red wine blend from Santa Barbara, California. I was drawn to the darling label and wanted to see if this wine would hold true to its name, “ Super Happy.” Would this wine leave me smiling?
When I picked up the bottle, I noticed it was bottled by reputable Field Recordings out of Paso Robles, California. Earlier this year, I tried Slice, one of their “alleged” skin-contact wines produced for Trader Joe’s, and loved it, so I knew it would be fun to sample.
Let’s jump into the tasting details and see if this wine leaves me with a smile on my face.
Tasting Notes:
Deep, rich ruby hue
Notes of dark red fruit- blackberry, plum, raspberry
Hints of spice and chocolate
Bold with medium tannins
Definitely on the acidic end of the spectrum
Verdict:
If I am being perfectly honest, the wine label made me happier than the wine itself. It’s an average red that honestly falls a little flat. At this price point, there are plenty of other wines at Trader Joe’s that really bring the flavor and punch. If you sample a bottle, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Until Next Time!
