Well, we made it through what feels like the longest month ever. I don’t know about you but I felt all 31 days of January. For those of you who successfully completed Dry January, congrats and welcome back! January was all about the bubbles, but February will be focused on red wines.

This week I picked up a bottle of Pinot Noir while I was at Aldi called Tailslide. The label caught my eye and then the price sealed the deal. To be honest, this is my first foray into tasting Aldi wine. To date, I’ve only sampled their bubbles and have yet to be disappointed.

Before we jump into the tasting notes, a couple of reminders to ensure the best drinking experience:

  1. Ensure that your wine is served at the proper temperature. For red wines, this is usually between 60-68 degrees. I have a bad habit of leaving wine bottles on my counter or in my wine cabinet and grabbing a bottle when is been an extraordinary day. If you have time, make sure it’s served with the ever so slightest chill.

  2. Give your wine time to breathe! There’s nothing more deceiving than the first sip of a wine when it’s poured into the glass. Allowing time for your wine to open up and breathe will allow the flavors and aromas to really present themselves.

Let’s jump into the details, shall we?

TASTING NOTES:

  • Classic Cork

  • Rich ruby red color

  • Middle of the road in terms of - not too light and not too bold

  • Dry with slight acidity

  • Smooth but tannins are certainly present

  • Notes of ripe cherry with hints of vanilla and the slightest presence of oak

  • SLIGHTLY reminiscent of Meiomi - ever so slightly

Verdict:

Tailslide was quite an enjoyable wine. I found myself enjoying it more as it opened up than when I first poured myself a glass. With Valentine’s/Galentine’s around the corner, this might be a fun wine to pair with chocolate. At the $6.99 price point, give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Until Next Time!

Welcome to Blonde Voyage Nashville!

I am so excited to finally see this dream become a reality.  Between the destination restaurants, the copious amount of food photos and insanely crazy travel stories, I have decided to share my journey.

My name is Catherine Courtney and I am a Nashville native with a penchant for culinary creativity and epic travel adventures. I'll admit... I also have a slight obsession with handbags.

Two years ago, my life changed completely.  Everything that I knew to be was completely turned upside down.  I quickly realized that time is our greatest commodity and it's not to be taken for granted. I couldn't wait for the perfect time, who knew when that would be.  I needed to take the leap and explore the world on my own.  There were so many places I wanted to go, but where would I start.

France was always one of those places that I had romanticized.  Wandering the streets of Paris and seeing the Eiffel tower were at the top of my list. Without hesitation, I booked a two week trip to the French Rivera and Paris.  It was a journey of a lifetime.  Not only were amazing friendships cultivated, but it was on that trip that i discovered that food and travel are the embers that that keep my soul on fire.

It wasn't until I arrived back in Nashville with my passport that I realized I had been bit. Wanderlust had completely taken over.  I already started thinking about where I wanted to go next.  It was then that I decided that it was more important to have camera full of photos and a tattered journal full of stories than anything else. My heart was overflowing.

One of my favorite quotes that resonates is from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland:

"Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures...."

Join me as I explore near and far away places, filling my passport full of stamps and satiating my appetite with some of the most amazing cuisine the world has to offer.

Thanks for reading!
