Ever since I returned home from South Africa, I’ve been seeking out South African wine. Whether it be in a restaurant (ah, those were the good old days, pre-COVID-19) or at my local wine shop, I’d always snag a bottle or two to taste. You can imagine how excited I was to spot a South African wine at Trader Joe’s. I snagged a bottle and now I wish I would have grabbed a case.
I’m happy to introduce to you all, The Delicious Monster, which is a fantastic white blend produced in Robertson Valley, South Africa. While this is a young wine, it does have a 2019 vintage, it does not disappoint. When I was in Stellenbosch, I tasted mostly red wine because that’s what I am typically drawn to, but I discovered that South Africa has a killer Chenin Blanc, which is one of the many wines they are known for outside of their fabulous Pinotage. Seeing as The Delicious Monster is mostly Chenin Blanc, I decided to give it whirl and a swirl!
Below are my tasting notes:
TASTING NOTES:
Produced by the McGregor Wines
Gorgeous Label, really makes you think of the lush, summertime greenery
Wheat-Yellow color
Notes of lemon, honey, grapefruit, and peach (light citrus notes throughout))
Medium acidity
Crisp and refreshing
Nice, easy finish
Verdict:
The Delicious Monster is a summertime sipper that you will want to stockpile when you find it at Trader Joe’s. Unfortunately, during my last visit, I didn’t spot any in stock, but you better believe I will buy a case when I find it. It’s the perfect wine to sip on when it’s a little warmer and the flavors are just delicious. To say this went down quickly is an understatement. Pick up a bottle and let me know what you think!
Until Next Time!
