Cheese-focused menu: Who doesn’t love the ooey gooeyness of melted cheese? I don’t think I’ve met anyone who disdained this particular food group. The Cheese Barge offers a menu that features an assortment of British cheese, cheese-centric dishes like the Westcombe Curried Cheese Curds, which are to die for, btw, gourmet cheese-laden sandwiches, and even desserts. Yes, even desserts. Simply put, this is a turophile’s heaven.

The Cheese Barge | Moored On The Regent’s Canal

Scenic Canal Setting: The Cheese Barge is a 96-foot double-decker vessel moored on the Regent’s Canal, providing picturesque views and a charming setting for your dining experience. While it was still a bit chilly during my visit, there’s an upper deck where patrons can enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese board, all while basking in the sunshine and laughter of friends. While it’s only a stone’s throw away from Paddington Station, patrons can expect a dining experience unlike any other.

Support Local Producers: In the past two decades, we’ve witnessed a remarkable rise in the number of farmhouse cheesemakers in the UK. This is a testament to the growing appreciation for British produce. People are not just embracing British wine but also British cheese! While the term “featuring local suppliers and producers” is often used loosely, The Cheese Barge is a true advocate of this British cheese making revival, actively supporting local farmers and the surrounding rural communities.

By now, your mouth is watering; I know mine is just recapping my experience. Before you embark upon this magical cheese journey, remember that reservations are necessary. As I mentioned earlier, The Cheese Barge is literally a tiny vessel, 94 feet long to be exact, which means space is at a premium. If you are interested in visiting, you can click HERE to check availability. As part of the reservation process, Tock will collect a £10.00 fee upon confirmation of your reservation that will be taken off your bill.

Plans change, and the great folks at The Cheese Barge recognize that. So, they have implemented a reasonable cancellation policy of 48 hours; after that, they cannot refund your deposit.

Lunch is served Monday through Sunday from 12:00-3:45 pm, and dinner is served Monday through Saturday from 5:30-9:00 pm and Sunday 5:30-7:15 pm.

The Cheese Barge | Smoked Lincolnshire Poacher Spätzle | Petit Pois + Shallot

Whether you choose to hang on the roof terrace soaking up the sunshine or the vibes, or perhaps the inside speaks more to you as you desire to sample the delicious fare, I have only one word of advice. Order All The Things. My last trip to London was solo. It was an incredible trip, but I didn’t want to be that person who ordered an ungodly amount of food, so I exhibited an EXTREME amount of self-restraint. Were there things on the menu that I missed? Absolutely. If I had it to do all over again, I would order all of the British cheeses. They aren’t readily available in the US, but to be honest, they are fabulous! I could easily spend an afternoon sampling wine and cheese. But that’s just me!

One of the more popular dishes is the Westcombe Curried Cheese Curds. This is a must—no matter what. It’s a large portion, and the likelihood of finishing it is slim, but the flavors are transcendental.

If you are planning your summer vacation or simply looking for something new and different to try, I cannot recommend The Cheese Barge enough. Incredible hospitality, delicious food, and superior vibes—what more do you need? If you have a chance to visit, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Drop them in the comments below!

Tariff: With so many options, patrons can easily find something that matches their price point. British cheese is £4.85 each, or three for £14.25. Small plates start at £4 and span upwards of £14. Grilled cheeses are priced at £9, with sides at £6 each. If you want a larger dish to share with the table, The Cheese Barge offers two priced at £32.

Can’t Miss: While I loved sampling a variety of British cheeses, my two standouts of the visit were the Westcombe Curried Cheese Curds and the Port & Cropwell Bishop Stilton Affogato.

Potential Pass: Even though I have difficulty saying “no” to anything with melty cheesy goodness, I’d likely pass on the Smoked Lincolnshire Poacher Spätzle. Not for any other reason than the fact that it was the heaviest dish of the meal. However, if you have a mac-and-cheese lover with you, this is one not to be missed.

Until Next Time!
