London | For the Culture & Cocktail Connoisseur

If you are traveling to London, I am about to let you in on one of the best-kept secrets in the city. But only because I adore my readers.

Nestled among the hustle and bustle of Piccadilly lies one of the city's most charming and elegant spots, Maison Assouline.

For those unfamiliar, Assouline is a luxury book publishing house renowned for its opulent coffee table books focusing on art, fashion, travel, and photography, to name a few. My culture connoisseurs have undoubtedly seen these prominently displayed in hotel lobbies, luxury interior stores, or maybe even your neighbor down the street.

Not only are they known for their stunning visuals, standout design, and high-quality content, but they have collaborated with numerous artists, photographers, writers, and designers to create books that are not only informative but also visually captivating.

In addition to its publishing endeavors, Assouline has also expanded its brand to include boutiques and concept stores in various cities around the world, offering a curated selection of books, gifts, and lifestyle items. The flagship store, Maison Assouline in London, combines a bookstore, gallery, and bar into a luxurious and immersive space for bibliophiles and design enthusiasts.

After spending several hours exploring the city, I desperately needed a break and a cocktail. After all, if a cocktail is calling your name, shouldn't you listen to it?

As I was planning my London adventure, I couldn't resist the allure of a cocktail break at the Swans Bar. It was a perfect way to punctuate my day of exploration.

The Swans Bar is perfect for those looking to relax and unwind in a stylish setting. Named after one of Assouline's books: "Swans: Legends of the Jet Society," the bar pays homage to the famous Swans of the 1950s, a group of influential socialites; this historical inspiration adds a layer of glamour and nostalgia to the bar's ambiance, making it an intriguing and unique setting.

I was seated at perhaps the most perfect table in the bar, the corner booth, giving me the ideal vantage point for the afternoon.

I perused the menu and opted for a seasonal cocktail from the Choix Du Swan's selection. The first beverage that caught my eye was the Melisseus, comprised of Michter's Bourbon, Beesou Honey Aperitif, Geranium, and Fig Leaf. Being the Southern girl I am, I love a good bourbon cocktail, and this one went down WAY too quickly.

If you've been following me for any length of time, you know I am a truffle enthusiast. If it's on the menu, I'm ordering it. I spotted the Shaman on the Timeless Classics section of the menu and knew I had to try it. This selection was a variation on a theme, as I had the opportunity to try The Lakes Whiskeymaker's Reserve No. 7, a single malt whiskey bottled at the Lakes Distillery in Cumbria, UK.

This cocktail was absolutely mesmerizing. I could easily have consumed a few more, but alas, I only had so much time in London.

I’m absolutely smitten with this bar.

While I typically include a can't miss and potential pass section in my blog post, I had an absolutely fantastic experience. I highly recommend both of the cocktails that I enjoyed. If bourbon and whiskey aren't your cup of tea, The Swans Bar has a myriad of offerings, and there's certainly something that will delight your palate.

Until Next Time!
