Nashville | Dicey's Tavern- Serving Up Party Cut Pizza + Summer Vibes
Nashville has seen its fair share of Chicago-style pizzerias make their way through Music City. While some were short-lived, I’m looking at you Gino’s East, others like 312 Pizza Company have been successfully feeding Nashvillians their deep-dish pies for years. This quintessential food staple of the Windy City is incredibly controversial. Chicagoans either love that thick deep-dish pie filled with layers of tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings, or they vehemently detest it and think it’s a novelty for tourists.
On the other side of the spectrum is a Chicago-style pizza that is rarely talked about, crispy, thin-crust pizza. Some may lovingly refer to this as tavern-style or party cuts. If you haven’t had this style of pizza, I’ll be the first to tell you that it’s dangerous. Before you know it, a couple of squares turn into devouring over half of a pizza. It goes down way too easily.
Welcome, newcomer Dicey’s Pizza and Tavern to the Nashville food scene. About a month ago, they opened in Wedgewood-Houston in the space that was previously occupied by Parson’s Chicken & Fish, which closed during the pandemic.
Let’s jump into the delicious details, shall we?
Dicey’s specializes in massive submarine sandwiches and party-cut pizza that are out of this world. We decided to visit Dicey’s for brunch and order all the things. We started with noneother than Crispy Cheese. I don’t know what it is, perhaps it is my inner child, but anytime I see fried cheese on the menu, it magically ends up in front of me. This melty goodness was the perfect size to share, even though I could have devoured it on my own.
In a failed attempt to be healthy, we ordered the G.O.A.T. salad, which was filled with orange and grapefruit slices and topped off with a healthy amount of goat cheese. What can I say, this salad was a standout. It’s the perfect size to share. If you’re coming for lunch, first bring a friend. Then I’d recommend ordering this and trying one of their massive sub sandwiches. While I didn’t have a chance to sample one, many of them made their way to tables around me, and no one could finish it.
Now for the star of the show, the pizza. Patrons can choose from seven specialty pizzas, and if nothing speaks to you, the build your own option is always available. When I read the description of the Peppy Boy and the Sausage Giardiniera, I was incredibly torn. Although, I could have ordered half of the specialty pizzas on the menu. So, we decided to order both.
If you are dining solo and looking to sample a few items on the menu, I’d recommend ordering the 9” and you will likely have a few squares to bring home. Bringing the family and friends? The 14” is a great size for sharing.
Nashvillians can no longer complain about only having Papa John’s and Domino’s for pizza as we have more enticing options than ever. At Dicey’s, you will find great pizza, solid cocktails, and a breezy outdoor space that serves some serious summer vibes. Call your friends, bring your pup, and head over to Dicey’s for some party-cut pizza, cocktails, and summer fun.
Tariff: Starters, salads, and subs range between $8.00 -$12.00. Depending on the size of the pizza ordered, pies cost anywhere from $14.00- $24.00. Dicey’s offers an assortment of beverages including beer, cocktails, and wines by the glass.
Can’t Miss: I’m a sucker for fried cheese anywhere I go, so without a doubt, you need to order the Crispy Cheese. If you are a Giardiniera enthusiast, you can’t go wrong with the Sausage Giardiniera pizza, but the most popular is the Peppy Boy. It’s the perfect pepperoni to cheese ratio, and that hot honey takes it to the next level.
Potential Pass: I’ll blame it on the fact that it was brunch and it was toasty outside, so the D’ICEEZ went down way TOO easy leaving me with the slightest dull headache all afternoon. If you’re a fan of limoncello, give this refreshing cocktail a whirl, I promise you, you’ll thank me later.
Until Next Time!
