Nashville | Doughbird Now Open!

It's a well-known fact that there's no shortage of restaurants in Nashville.Except in one area, Green Hills. While the area has flourished in the last few years with the addition of Cava, Chopt, North Italia, and True Food Kitchen, there are also locations like Zoe's Kitchen and Pei Wei closing their doors. As I drove down Hillsboro Road, I noticed that CPK closed (FINALLY) and renovations were being made to the space. Uncertain of what was opening in the former California Pizza Kitchen space, I decided to do what I do best, internet stalk. In no time, I discovered that Sam Fox was expanding outside downtown Nashville and bringing his Doughbird concept to Green Hills.

For those unfamiliar with Sam Fox, he is the creative mastermind and genius behind the Twelve Thirty Club, Blanco Cocina + Cantina, and most recently, Pushing Daisies. Doughbird's most mouthwatering menu serves an unexpected but delicious duo: chicken and pizza. Be still my heart!

Restaurant patrons can expect an assortment of their favorite appetizers, including Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, Guacamole and Pimento Cheese and my favorite, the Truffle Cheese Bread. A must-order, but I'll let the photo speak for itself. Looking for something a little more hearty? Check out Doughbird's pizzas. Guests can expect a variety of options, but I had a chance to enjoy the Aviator with Detroit-style crust, and it did NOT disappoint. It's a perfect size, four slices, allowing enough for lunch or dinner and a couple of pieces to take home for later. If deep-dish pizza isn't your thing, you can always opt for the hand-stretched crust.

Now that I've given you the lowdown on the pizza situation let's talk about the chicken. Doughbird serves it all wings, tenders, and rotisserie chicken that will make your mouth water. During my visit, I had a chance to sample the wings and a few of the sauces recommended by our server. Wings are a tricky dish. I find they are either too dry, a bit too greasy, or drenched in sauce, and you can't even taste the flavor. Doughbird's dry-rubbed wings hit the spot. They weren't overly crispy and perfectly moist. The server insisted that we try the Spicy Buffalo sauce, and if I am being honest, it changed my world. I asked that they leave it behind so I could use it for dipping my pizza crust. IT WAS THAT GOOD.

I've saved the best for last. Let's talk about the star of the show: Peanut Butter Brookie. Yes, it's truly the best of both worlds, a warm chocolate brownie and a peanut butter cookie, served à la mode. Trust me when I say it's worth fighting the traffic on Hillsboro Road. I don't know how they do it, but it gets better bite after bite. Rest assured, I'll happily post up at the bar with a glass of red wine and this dessert any day of the week.

Doughbird has quite the bar making it the perfect place to watch the game or catch up with your friends. Patrons can choose from craft cocktails, local beers, and wine. I had a chance to sip on the Spicy Blackberry Marg and the Local, and both were excellent. Add Doughbird to your list, and drop your favorite dishes in the comments below!

Tariff: Appetizers, salads, and sandwiches range between $10.00- $20.00, with entrees upwards of $38.00.

Can't Miss: Where do I begin? The Peanut Butter Brookie and the Truffle Cheese Bread are an absolute must. Make sure you order the Spicy Buffalo Sauce if you order any chicken. Damn, it's excellent!

Potential Pass: While I enjoyed the Guacamole and Pimento Cheese, you can have those two things anywhere in Nashville. Opt for something more unique and flavorful.

Until Next Time!
