The Magic of Mosquito Supper Club: An Unforgettable New Orleans Dining Experience

New Orleans is a city that takes its food seriously, and after a weekend filled with beignets, po’boys, and enough oysters to last a lifetime, I thought I had tasted it all. But then came Mosquito Supper Club—a dining experience that felt less like a restaurant and more like a love letter to Cajun cuisine. Set in an intimate, communal space, the evening unfolded like a perfectly choreographed celebration of Louisiana’s rich culinary traditions. Freshly baked bread filled the air with warmth, while dish after dish of impeccably prepared cuisine made me wonder if I’d ever be able to settle for anything less. If there was one meal that truly captured the heart and soul of New Orleans, this was it.

The Story Behind Mosquito Supper Club

Founded by Chef Melissa M. Martin, Mosquito Supper Club was born out of a desire to preserve and share the flavors of Louisiana’s disappearing coastal traditions. Raised in Chauvin, a small fishing village along the bayou, Martin grew up surrounded by the rhythm of Cajun cooking—seafood pulled straight from the Gulf, rice harvested from nearby fields, and family meals that stretched long into the evening. She opened Mosquito Supper Club as a way to bring these traditions to life, not just for locals but for visitors eager to experience authentic Louisiana cuisine beyond the usual French Quarter fare.

What started as a small, seasonal supper club has since gained national recognition, earning a James Beard Award and a devoted following. But despite its accolades, the essence of Mosquito Supper Club remains unchanged: a communal dining experience where food is more than a meal—it’s a connection to place, culture, and history.

The Food: A Celebration of the Gulf

At Mosquito Supper Club, the menu isn’t just seasonal—it’s a reflection of what the Louisiana waters and fields provide. The multi-course, family-style meal highlights the best of Cajun cuisine, prepared with the kind of care and reverence that transforms simple ingredients into something unforgettable.

Dinner begins with freshly baked biscuits, butter so rich it should be its own food group, and small bites that set the stage for what’s to come. Then, the seafood takes center stage—melt in your mouth fish dish, pickled shrimp and plump gulf oysters. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared, allowing the natural flavors to shine without unnecessary embellishment.

And then there’s Velma Marie’s Oyster Soup—a deep, soul-warming bowl that could single-handedly define Louisiana comfort food. Served with Rye Ciabatta, it’s the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes and savor every spoonful. And we haven’t even made it to the main course. Radicchio & Mustard Frill salad, Stuffed Cabbage Rolls and the most delectable Duck Confit that I’ve ever put in my mouth.

By the time dessert arrives, you’ll be full but unwilling to let the experience end.

The Atmosphere: More Than Just a Meal

Part of what makes Mosquito Supper Club so special is its convivial, communal atmosphere. Unlike a typical restaurant, the dining room feels more like a long, intimate dinner party where strangers quickly become friends. The rustic tables are set for shared experiences, encouraging conversation as guests pass dishes, swap stories, and toast to a well-spent night.

The space itself is cozy and welcoming, with warm lighting and the hum of lively conversation filling the air. There’s no rush—dinner here is meant to be savored, unfolding at a pace that allows you to appreciate every moment. It’s the kind of place where laughter is as abundant as the wine, and by the end of the evening, you feel as though you’ve been welcomed into someone’s home.

Welcome to Blonde Voyage Nashville!

I am so excited to finally see this dream become a reality.  Between the destination restaurants, the copious amount of food photos and insanely crazy travel stories, I have decided to share my journey.

My name is Catherine Courtney and I am a Nashville native with a penchant for culinary creativity and epic travel adventures. I'll admit... I also have a slight obsession with handbags.

Two years ago, my life changed completely.  Everything that I knew to be was completely turned upside down.  I quickly realized that time is our greatest commodity and it's not to be taken for granted. I couldn't wait for the perfect time, who knew when that would be.  I needed to take the leap and explore the world on my own.  There were so many places I wanted to go, but where would I start.

France was always one of those places that I had romanticized.  Wandering the streets of Paris and seeing the Eiffel tower were at the top of my list. Without hesitation, I booked a two week trip to the French Rivera and Paris.  It was a journey of a lifetime.  Not only were amazing friendships cultivated, but it was on that trip that i discovered that food and travel are the embers that that keep my soul on fire.

It wasn't until I arrived back in Nashville with my passport that I realized I had been bit. Wanderlust had completely taken over.  I already started thinking about where I wanted to go next.  It was then that I decided that it was more important to have camera full of photos and a tattered journal full of stories than anything else. My heart was overflowing.

One of my favorite quotes that resonates is from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland:

"Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures...."

Join me as I explore near and far away places, filling my passport full of stamps and satiating my appetite with some of the most amazing cuisine the world has to offer.

Thanks for reading!
