September, Oh, September. The awkward month that we associate with the beginning of fall, all things pumpkin-spice, and cooler temperatures (we hope). In between back-to-school activities, tailgating, and holiday planning, many of you are looking for fall getaways that allow you to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Whether you’re ready to cross oceans or if you’re planning to stay stateside, I’ve got just the thing that will transport you.

Blame it on the fact that I’ve binge-watched Bridgerton one too many times or my love for delicate finger sandwiches and scones, but there’s nothing better than the ritual of afternoon tea. I recently had the chance to enjoy tea service at the TENNESSEAN hotel, located in Knoxville, Tennessee. Exceptional would be an understatement as this tea service easily rivaled my experiences in Chicago and New York.

Over the last twelve months, the TENNESSEAN has incorporated tea service in its dining repertoire, allowing guests to mark a special occasion like their upcoming nuptials or simply providing an opportunity to indulge, relax and catch up with family and friends.

Let’s jump into the details, shall we?

Tea service is held in The Drawing Room, but if you are looking for something a bit more intimate, the TENNESSEAN is more than willing to accommodate guests’ requests.

The TENNESSEAN sources their delicious teas from Rare Tea Cellar, located in Chicago, Illinois. Rare Tea Cellar is known as one of the premier tea purveyors in the country and provides tea to the likes of the Park Hyatt, Blue Hill at Stone Farms as well as many Michelin-starred restaurants. The TENNESSEAN’s signature tea, Sweet Peach Noir, is sure to become one of your favorites.

In addition to afternoon tea, the TENNESSEAN is setting itself apart by offering a variety of specialty tea options. I had the opportunity to get a sneak preview of their Prohibition Tea service and let me tell you, it was marvelous!

Aside from the assortment of house-made scones, petite tea sandwiches, and dainty portions of cakes, guests will experience three different cocktails that were prevalent during the Prohibition era. As we sipped on our cocktails and enjoyed the sweet and savory treats, we learned a bit of history about each beverage and what made each so special during this particular time.

Of the three cocktails served, my favorite was the French 75, but then again, I love anything that incorporates champagne.

If the Prohibition Tea service isn’t speaking to you, the TENNESSEAN has several other specialty teas scheduled before the end of the year. Click HERE for the calendar. If you’re looking for a fun and unique way to celebrate the holidays, the Christmas tea would be perfect for a girlfriend get-together and even a wonderful experience to gift to those who are difficult to buy for.

Afternoon tea is one of the best ways to catch up with friends and loved ones. Because let’s face it, between work and family obligations, sometimes there’s isn’t enough time for those much-needed catch-up sessions where you can sit, laugh, and unequivocally be yourself. Get out your calendar and start planning. I see a trip to Knoxville in your future!

Until Next Time!

Thank you to The TENNESSEAN hotel for partnering with me on this post!

Catherine Courtney

Welcome to Blonde Voyage Nashville!

I am so excited to finally see this dream become a reality.  Between the destination restaurants, the copious amount of food photos and insanely crazy travel stories, I have decided to share my journey.

My name is Catherine Courtney and I am a Nashville native with a penchant for culinary creativity and epic travel adventures. I'll admit... I also have a slight obsession with handbags.

Two years ago, my life changed completely.  Everything that I knew to be was completely turned upside down.  I quickly realized that time is our greatest commodity and it's not to be taken for granted. I couldn't wait for the perfect time, who knew when that would be.  I needed to take the leap and explore the world on my own.  There were so many places I wanted to go, but where would I start.

France was always one of those places that I had romanticized.  Wandering the streets of Paris and seeing the Eiffel tower were at the top of my list. Without hesitation, I booked a two week trip to the French Rivera and Paris.  It was a journey of a lifetime.  Not only were amazing friendships cultivated, but it was on that trip that i discovered that food and travel are the embers that that keep my soul on fire.

It wasn't until I arrived back in Nashville with my passport that I realized I had been bit. Wanderlust had completely taken over.  I already started thinking about where I wanted to go next.  It was then that I decided that it was more important to have camera full of photos and a tattered journal full of stories than anything else. My heart was overflowing.

One of my favorite quotes that resonates is from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland:

"Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures...."

Join me as I explore near and far away places, filling my passport full of stamps and satiating my appetite with some of the most amazing cuisine the world has to offer.

Thanks for reading!
