With the holidays right around the corner, I know you all will be looking for different and affordable wines for upcoming dinners, good ole get-togethers, and even the occasional gift. Trust me, I know the assignment! Tonight, I grabbed a bottle of Bois de Menge, which is a red wine produced in the southern Rhone region of France. Typically, I lean towards more Italian and California reds, but at the recommendation of Cheese Gal, I had to pick this bottle up and give it a whirl. Before we get into the tasting notes, I’ll warn you, this is a bold one. If you aren’t a fan of wines that will smack you in the face, then this isn’t the bottle for you. If you’re a fan of red wine with lots of character, let’s jump into the tasting details, shall we?
TASTING NOTES:
Natural cork
Opaque, deep purple hue
Bold; mild acidity
Notes of fruit, specifically cherry and blackberry; dark red fruit note prevalent throughout
Well-balanced with soft/trace amount of tannins
Velvety, smooth, rich finish
Decant this bottle!
Verdict:
This is by far one of the bolder wines I’ve enjoyed recently. It’s rather intense right out of the bottle, so I’d recommend decanting it so you can enjoy the complexity and flavors of the wine. You rarely find a French wine of this caliber at this price point. I’d add it to the holiday repertoire. If you grab a bottle, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Until Next Time!
