Another week and another new bottle of wine from Trader Joe's. When I think I am close to trying most of their wine, they trick me and stock the shelves with new bottles! I know, I know, you all are anxiously awaiting a white wine review. I promise they are forthcoming. The weather here in Nashville has been all over the place, and until I have the A/C on full blast, red wine will be my ride-or-die.

Since the Patroferno Appassimento Puglia Primitivo was so lovely, I tried another bottle with a similar wine-making methodology. Introducing Campi Rudi Appassimento Rosso Puglia IGT Passito. When I saw that it was from one of my favorite wine regions in Italy, Puglia, I knew I had to try it.

Let's get into the tasting notes, shall we?

Tasting Notes:

  • Deep ruby red hue

  • Ripe red fruit on the nose, specifically cherry, with raisiny flavors throughout

  • Hints of cocoa, oak, and vanilla

  • Smooth and well-balanced; little acid

Verdict:

I hate to say it, but this bottle fell flat and left a lot to be desired. There's initial flavor on the palate, but it dissipates after two or three seconds. While it has received some positive reviews from other Trader Joe's wine enthusiasts, it's a pass for me. Several different wines at this price point are much more enjoyable.

Until Next Time!
