Fellow wine lovers, it has been too long since we have shared a bottle of wine. I hope you all are cashing in on this amazing weather we are having and pretending you are somewhere more tropical than your patio. In honor of warmer weather, I thought it would be nice to taste a bottle of white wine. Now that the flowers are blooming and the temperatures are rising, many of us are looking for a crisp and refreshing wine to drink. Instead of grabbing your go-to bottle of chardonnay or sauvignon, I challenge you to consider expanding your horizons and palate and pick up a grape variety that you may not be familiar with. Put down that Pinot Grigio and pick up a Chenin Blanc, Viognier, or perhaps even a bottle of Grüner Veltliner.

You will find that most Grüner Veltliner produced comes from Austria, however, this particular bottle was produced in Hungary. They say that Grüner Veltliner is like a more exotic Sauvignon Blanc, so rather than ramble on, let’s talk tasting notes. I have a sneaky suspicion that you will want to get your hands on a few bottles of this!

TASTING NOTES:

  • Screwtop

  • Pale straw color

  • Dry with lots of citrus notes- lemon, lime, and a bit of grapefruit

  • Medium acidity but not overpowering

  • Crisp and refreshing- the perfect warm-weather wine

  • Easy to drink

Verdict:

I know it may be a bit premature, but this could be my official wine of spring. The Floriana Grüner Veltliner is such an easy wine. It would be a great bottle to sip while you are on your patio or bring to your next girls’ night. While I did find similar characteristics between this and a Sauvignon Blanc, I enjoyed it more because it didn’t have that intense acidity or pucker factor as I like to call it. It’s unusual to find a bottle of Grüner Veltliner at this price, so if you are looking for a wine that is light, bright, and screams Hello, Spring, this bottle is for you!

Until Next Time!

Welcome to Blonde Voyage Nashville!

I am so excited to finally see this dream become a reality.  Between the destination restaurants, the copious amount of food photos and insanely crazy travel stories, I have decided to share my journey.

My name is Catherine Courtney and I am a Nashville native with a penchant for culinary creativity and epic travel adventures. I'll admit... I also have a slight obsession with handbags.

Two years ago, my life changed completely.  Everything that I knew to be was completely turned upside down.  I quickly realized that time is our greatest commodity and it's not to be taken for granted. I couldn't wait for the perfect time, who knew when that would be.  I needed to take the leap and explore the world on my own.  There were so many places I wanted to go, but where would I start.

France was always one of those places that I had romanticized.  Wandering the streets of Paris and seeing the Eiffel tower were at the top of my list. Without hesitation, I booked a two week trip to the French Rivera and Paris.  It was a journey of a lifetime.  Not only were amazing friendships cultivated, but it was on that trip that i discovered that food and travel are the embers that that keep my soul on fire.

It wasn't until I arrived back in Nashville with my passport that I realized I had been bit. Wanderlust had completely taken over.  I already started thinking about where I wanted to go next.  It was then that I decided that it was more important to have camera full of photos and a tattered journal full of stories than anything else. My heart was overflowing.

One of my favorite quotes that resonates is from Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland:

"Actually, the best gift you could have given her was a lifetime of adventures...."

Join me as I explore near and far away places, filling my passport full of stamps and satiating my appetite with some of the most amazing cuisine the world has to offer.

Thanks for reading!
