There’s no better way to commemorate the start of summer than with a bottle of rosé! As we continue to Drink the Rainbow, I wanted to sample two rosés, one still and one sparkling. Call me basic, but there’s nothing better than sitting on a patio sipping a glass of rosé with my best friends.
While I was at Trader Joe’s last week, I picked up a bottle of Josefina Rosé which is produced in Paso Robles, California. We’ve sampled several wines from this area, all of which have been enjoyable. As I was checking out the label, I noticed that this was a Syrah rosé, which explains the darker color. This particular wine was cold fermented in stainless steel tanks in hopes of preserving the freshness and ripe fruits.
More than excited to commemorate summer 2020, I poured a glass and said cheers!
TASTING NOTES:
Screwtop
Darker hue due to Syrah grapes
Notes of red and purple fruit on the nose and in the mouth, specifically strawberries
Fruit flavor dissipates and leaves a weird, funky tart finish in the mouth
Medium body
Verdict: You win some, you lose some and this my friends was a straight-up loser. While the fruit flavors were bold initially, they immediately disappeared once in the mouth leaving me with a less than pleasant taste. For the $6.99 price point, there are other rosés that are far better. Let’s hope that the sparkling rosé next week doesn’t let us down!
Until Next Time!
