Nashville's Newest Treasure | Butterlamp Bread And Beverage

Butterlamp Bread And Beverage | Tucked In the Annex Of Eastwood Village

Nashville has a vibrant and diverse dining scene that has gained significant attention in recent years. It seems like a new restaurant or bar is opening weekly, making it hard for this girl to keep up. As I've been combing through restaurant listicles and articles about some of my favorite long-time establishments shuttering, there was one place I've been keeping an eye on: Butterlamp Bread and Beverage. I was bursting with anticipation when I saw a wine bar and bread house opening in East Nashville. After all, those are two of my favorite food groups- Do you really need anything more?

This new dining locale is the brainchild of local creative duo Ben and Katie Rose Tyson, who have backgrounds in music and hospitality. Inspired by their travels to Bhutan, the couple lit a Butterlamp as a practice to spread gratitude and positivity, similar to offering food and drinks to friends.

Butterlamp features a curated wine list with stellar by-the-glass offerings. In fact, one of my all-time favorite wineries, Patricia Green Cellars, is featured. In the event that you aren't feeling wine or looking for something a little different, there's an assortment of cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages available.

Let's talk food, shall we?

Butterlamp's menu has a section titled "Cultured, Cured + Tinned" that features their daily offerings of cheese, meats, and seafood. We ordered warm bread and butter accompanied by the "Cultured and Cured," which made for the perfect little snack.

No good Southerner would turn down a deviled egg, so I insisted that we try the deviled eggs in a skirt. They were warm, flavorful, and topped with the slightest bit of flaked salt. <Insert obnoxious food groan here> Undoubtedly, I could have easily consumed two orders- no questions asked.

If you want something a bit heartier, Butterlamp features "stuff on bread," which is all served on their toasted sourdough. I fell in love with the Maine Lobster, and my partner in dine couldn't say enough great things about the mussels. Guests can expect a menu change-up occasionally as they feature seasonal ingredients.

Despite enjoying three glasses of wine and many of their food offerings, I look forward to trying the pork fat fries and the crudité with tofu green goddess upon my return.

I've also got my eye on the chocolate gateau.

It's nearly impossible to enjoy the sourdough bread and not want to take a loaf home—that is, if they have any available. Guests can choose from O.G., Konbu, or Cracked Pepper Sourdough. If you're looking for something different, they also sell English Muffin Bread and Fermented Sweet Potato bread. I snagged a half loaf of sweet potato and intend to make decadent French toast.

Let me guess- you are grabbing your keys and heading out the door, excited to try Butterlamp. Here are a few things to know before you go.

  • Seating is first come, first served, with seats available inside and outside. The space is roughly 1500 square feet. It can get crowded quickly.

  • Wine and food can be ordered at the counter. Full service is available if you are fortunate enough to snag one of the few counter seats.

  • Even with Google Maps, I drove right by Butterlamp the first time. Keep your eyes peeled, or you may miss it.

  • Parking always makes me anxious when I go to East Nashville. However, there's street parking available on Chapel Avenue, or you can enter the lot via Greenwood Avenue or Hobson Chapel Place and park in one of the unmarked parking spots.

  • Reservations aren't available, so plan accordingly.
